THIS IS WHY SONKO WON’T WIN A CONFRONTATION WITH THE “DEEP STATE”

The arrest and detention of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is the culmination of a series of events that mark the beginning of the end of his political career and a successful run in Nairobi Politics. Ever since he was elected Governor, Sonko has been a man hell-bent on singing his own tune rather than that his masters from the Deep State had created for him to sing and dance along to. His attempts at trying to be an independent man have largely ended in failure and pundits predict that the deep state creation called the Nairobi Metropolitan Services would render him useless by 2022.

Sonko would not win in such a situation he finds himself in. He had largely kept his sponsors at bay by refusing a Deputy given to him (Igathe) and a county secretary that had been assigned by his sponsors to purportedly work for him. When he thought that he was winning, NMS comes up and he cannot do anything but whine on Facebook about his cuckolding by the man he derisively calls “Saddam Hussein”. He is conveniently forgetting that NMS has the whole resources and backing of the government behind him and what that remains is his impeachment and imprisonment.

For those who are in doubt, Sonko’s rise in Kenyan politics bears the hallmark of the Deep State creation. He is a convicted felon who made his wealth by dabbling in illegal businesses like selling drugs, which was confirmed in a US dossier leaked in 2010 thanks to the Wikileaks scandal. He also escaped the Shimo La Tewa prison back in 1998 under unclear circumstances that only spooks in the intelligence bureau can piece together. Yet despite all this glaring evidence of mischief coupled with his lack of academic credentials, he still managed to get elected as Makadara MP, Nairobi Senator, and finally Nairobi Governor. Had he cooled his ardor, he could have been the President, a dream Pablo Escobar never managed to achieve despite his narco-billions.

While he can rant and rave through his Facebook account, the NMS is busy taking over the functions of the county as the BBI process steamrolls forward with plans to take the county back under the jurisdiction of the national government. If Sonko persists in playing hardball, even going far as ‘exposing’ the intrigues behind the disputed 2017 polls that saw him trash venues that NASA planned to use to host their Resistance rallies with human waste (Jacaranda), he might find himself back to Shimo La Tewa where he served time for forgery. What is the best thing he could do?

He could lie low and let things breeze by as the general takes the shine (or blame) for what NMS is trying to achieve. He could accept a deputy and a secretary who would work for the system rather than him. Finally, he can support the BBI process and hope that Uhuru would leave the government after the expiry of his term and that he gets re-elected as governor (Incase that position will still exist in 2022).

As things stand at the moment, he cannot win against the system that made him.
