WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM A BIDEN ADMINISTRATION?
The countdown to the January 20th, 2021 handover
ceremony in Washington DC is ongoing as the current administration prepares to
hand over to an incoming Biden Administration. Most of the elated people in America
and all over the world ask, what can we expect from a Biden Government? Here’s
the list.
High
Taxes
A Biden government would reverse the Trump tax-cuts
which have been criticized for being pro-wealthy and of no value to the middle
and low-income working-class Americans. Corporations have had a field day
cashing in on the lowered capital gains tax as well as the billionaires and millionaires
who made a lot of money thanks to the tax cuts, whereas many were left out. The
tax cuts also ballooned the deficit and you can see why Biden will have to increase
taxes to cut this deficit.
Strong
Pro-Environment Policies
President Trump never hid his disdain for climate
change activists like Greta Thunberg and for treaties like the Paris Accord,
which he withdrew from. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) under Trump has
reversed most of the regulations President Obama had put in place to protect
the environment. Look at the reversed ban on oil drilling along the East Coast,
which President Obama had put in place to protect marine life, President Trump
reversed it. Under Biden, the EPA will bring those restrictions back.
Immigration
Reform
Under President Trump, the immigration policy was as
chaotic as the protests against child separation were. The chaos started with
the Muslim travel ban that separated many Muslim families living in the US who
were outside of the country by the time the re-interpreted Executive Order came
into force. DACA was targeted for repealing but failed, and child-separation
was stopped. Under a Biden Administration, the same chaos will be there but the
media won’t report it like they did under President Trump’s reign. You can
expect more deportations of Latino illegal immigrants just like it was under
President Obama and Trump.
Foreign
Policy
President Trump’s foreign policy was his strongest
point as it put America First in everything. The people who would miss Trump
greatly will be the Israelis, who had a strong ally in him. You can expect
Biden to put pressure on Israel to stop the settlements, stop forcing European
NATO allies to spend 2% of their GDP on defense as President Trump did and the
cold war with China to end. US troops will be back into Syria and the sanctions
on Iran, Russia, and North Korea will still be there. He would also rejoin the Paris Accord. Nothing much will change
on this front, save for the pressure on China, which Biden will look to put a
stop.
Domestic
Front
The Republicans still have control of the Senate
while his party (Democrats) have the House of Representatives, so they will
make things hard for Biden, so he should be ready to make compromises if he
wants to pass legislative policy. A nationwide lockdown is possible should the current Covid-19 pandemic persist.
